They apply the core governance principles to particular NFP sectors and focus on the issues directors need to understand at board level, including the regulatory environment, key governance and compliance obligations, emerging risks, practical oversight questions and areas requiring particular board assurance.

How the Overlays Work
The Specialist Overlays complement Director Essentials for Not-for-Profits rather than repeat it. The core course establishes the essential legal, financial and governance foundations expected of NFP directors. Each Overlay then examines how those responsibilities apply in a particular sector.
Participants complete a sector-specific knowledge review and receive separate recognition of completion for the Specialist Overlay.
